The time has come!
The long awaited 4th edition of Captains Draft is set to begin, this time as an official Minor. Throughout this new Dota 2 season, it will be the only Major/Minor tournament not played in Captains Mode.
If you are not familiar with Captains Draft, here is a basic run-down. Each game, teams are given a pool of 27 random heroes to pick/ban. This is divided by 9 heroes for each respective attribute. In addition, heroes that are not available in Captains Mode will be made available to pick/ban. Currently this only includes Techies, but with a big patch coming on November 1st, we expect that number to rise.
This game-mode benefits captains that can think quick on their feet as well as teams that are flexible in nature. Historically, trends within Captains Draft have brought attention to heroes that were otherwise ignored, thereby helping shape the meta for Dota 2 as a whole.
It feels like forever ago when syndereN and I created this tournament. I never dreamed that Captains Draft would ever become a LAN, let alone an official Minor. We are very excited for this opportunity and we hope our viewers will appreciate a little bit of diversity in an otherwise cluttered circuit.
The qualifiers will take place between October 28 - November 15 and be broadcast on the MoonduckTV twitch channel. VODs of the tournament will be found on the Moonduck Youtube Channel, while highlight videos will be posted on DotaCinema.
The LAN itself will take place from Jan 4-7, 2018 in Washington D.C. in front of a live-audience. Details regarding venue & tickets will be released in the coming weeks.
